Samsung :: CenterStage :: Cinder Retail Interactive Experience
CenterStage, a hulking six-by-eleven foot wall with nine screens, displays over 50 of Samsung’s products in their actual size. Shoppers can experiment with the appliances using the touch screen technology; they can zoom in on features, open up a refrigerators and microwaves, tweak their colors, and even place them down in a fabricated kitchen.
Twenty-five Barbarian staffers were devoted to the project, which took eight months to complete. Method Studios, a New York-based special effects and CG animation house, also provided captivating feature animations for the installation at a canvas size of over 7000 pixels.
I was the lead producer from scoping the original SOW through installation at Best Buy.

GE.com Relaunch
GE.com relaunch needed to be more than a marketing tool, as it was an important part of attracting business leads and employee talent. So The Barbarian Group created a strategy to enable customers, jobseekers, and media to access relevant information right away while also humanizing GE, telling stories of GE work people can relate to.
I came in as a freelancer at Barbarian Group to lead this project as a Sr. Producer, after the discovery phase. I started during the UX phase, working on gaining stakeholder alignment across different GE business units and GE global regions with requirements and wireframes. Barbarian group designed and developed front end templates, and worked closely with GE IT as they implemented a new Drupal CMS. We went from wires to launch in 4 months. I was brought on as an on staff EP, after running this project.
This site features:
- Large, visually stunning photographs of GE people and the products they make.
- A navigation that makes it easy to find what you’re looking for.
- Consolidated content sections with less redundancy.
- New sections like the Career Guide that helped users find their way into a job at GE.
- More high-impact copy that captures the global role GE plays in solving human problems.
- The site is responsive, resizing to fit desktop, tablet and mobile layouts automatically.
-
When Barbarian redesigned GE.com, we also created a UI Kit, a system for the reuse of the following elements across different Web properties:
- CSS / Styles
- Icons
- Tracking / Analytics Javascript
- Consistent Video Player Behavior
- Javascript for Progressive Image Loading
It’s based on Twitter Bootstrap, so it follows modern design and code best practices.
-
After the Launch of the site in December, a lean team was kept on to make updates and enhancements, which include:
- UX, Design and front end development for Design New Assets Update Content
- New Templates
- New UI Elements
- New functionality
- Update Content
- Existing Code Enhancements
- Updates to the UI Kit
- Regional Content Training
- UX, Design and front end development for Design New Assets Update Content

GE CSX Music Video
The Barbarian Group and GE collaborated with Reuben Wu of rock band Ladytron to produce “Over 20,000 Containers, 2,000 Routes”. The video artistically demonstrates the complexity involved in the tightly-orchestrated intermodal process that is required to move goods across the country. The audio includes organic terminal sounds (captured by Wu onsite) and original instrumentation with cinematic views of key moments in the intermodal process.

GE :: GETransportation.com Relaunch & CMS Build
Following the success of the GE.com redesign, GE Corporate recommended The Barbarian Group to GE Transportation to redesign their website. Further, we were trusted with the responsibility of building their entire backend infrastructure, in addition to front-end development. Our goal with the redesign was to create a best-in-class website to generate sales and serve as a hub for customers to seamlessly find information regarding products, press, and recruiting. Part of the redesign entailed consolidating P&Ls into one umbrella, standardizing both from a architectural and messaging & branding standpoint. It also included development of a Drupal CMS to enable marketing teams to update content easily.
