GE.com Relaunch

GE.com relaunch needed to be more than a marketing tool, as it was an important part of attracting business leads and employee talent. So The Barbarian Group created a strategy to enable customers, jobseekers, and media to access relevant information right away while also humanizing GE, telling stories of GE work people can relate to.

I came in as a freelancer at Barbarian Group to lead this project as a Sr. Producer, after the discovery phase. I started during the UX phase, working on gaining stakeholder alignment across different GE business units and GE global regions with requirements and wireframes. Barbarian group designed and developed front end templates, and worked closely with GE IT as they implemented a new Drupal CMS. We went from wires to launch in 4 months. I was brought on as an on staff EP, after running this project.

This site features:

  • Large, visually stunning photographs of GE people and the products they make.
  • A navigation that makes it easy to find what you’re looking for.
  • Consolidated content sections with less redundancy.
  • New sections like the Career Guide that helped users find their way into a job at GE.
  • More high-impact copy that captures the global role GE plays in solving human problems.
  • The site is responsive, resizing to fit desktop, tablet and mobile layouts automatically.
  • When Barbarian redesigned GE.com, we also created a UI Kit, a system for the reuse of the following elements across different Web properties:

    • CSS / Styles
    • Icons
    • Tracking / Analytics Javascript
    • Consistent Video Player Behavior
    • Javascript for Progressive Image Loading

It’s based on Twitter Bootstrap, so it follows modern design and code best practices.

  • After the Launch of the site in December, a lean team was kept on to make updates and enhancements, which include:

    • UX, Design and front end development for Design New Assets Update Content
      • New Templates
      • New UI Elements
      • New functionality
    • Update Content
    • Existing Code Enhancements
    • Updates to the UI Kit
    • Regional Content Training
